Interstate 43

About

I-43 is a relatively short interstate located in Wisconsin, which connects Green Bay to Milwaukee and then Beloit on the Wisconsin - Illinois border. It is completely confined within the borders of Wisconsin. It is mostly a north-south interstate, though the southern part from Milwaukee to Beloit runs diagonally across the lower part of the state in a northeastern - southwestern direction.

I-43 is the 29th shortest interstate in the United States, at approximately 192 miles of road.

Its southern end terminates just outside of Beloit on the northeast side, where it merges into I-90 and I-39. Its northern end terminates on the northern side of Green Bay, at the same junction where I-41 turns into Highway 41.

Attractions Near I-43

The upper half of I-43 runs right alongside Lake Michigan, and passes through some great small towns along the way. Some of these towns include Sheboygan and Port Washington (where the 90s sitcom Step By Step was set).

The lower half passes through some great places too, and even a spooky one! There have been a number of sightings of a supposed werewolf in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, a town that I-43 runs straight through. Be sure to take extra care if you find yourself passing through!

History

Construction of I-43 was started in the early to mid 1960s. The southern portion from Milwaukee to Beloit was completed in 1976, and the northern portion was completed in 1981, finalizing the route from Green Bay to Beloit.
